TOMIC #28

Evening all

Its getting awfully late here so I will just do a quick entry with my TOMIC challenge #28 before heading off to bed.

The challenge this week is to make a Christmas Decoration. I decided to use this count down tree from Kaiser Craft, and made my Tilda the Angel on the top of the tree!

I used Kaiser Craft's "Be Merry" Collection from last year on the tree and the plaques for the numbers.

I also used my new Sizzix die "3D flowers" to cut the spiral roses. They are so easy to make! Once run through my cuttlebug with the die, I use my tweezers to hold the "tail" and start turning it up into a spiral. Once you reach the centre, hold for a couple of seconds and then release the tweezers. You can then loosen the spiral to your liking and then use a glue dot, or in my case, some quick drying glue to hold in place at the centre.

Stamp: Magnolia - So Jolly Collection "Tilda as Christmas Angel".

Paper: Kaiser Craft - Be Merry Collection

Embellishments: Paper blooms by Kaiser craft and Green Tara (I think!); Fabric flowers and holly leaves that I got at Spotlight; red, silver and gold berries; Alpha letters and numbers - Kaiser craft and Prima. Green paint and Brown ink.

I coloured my Tilda with Copics on X-Press It paper.

Copics used:

Face/skin - E000, E11, R20

Hair - E31, E33, E37

Band and dress - R20, R22, R24, R29

Stars - Y00, Y02.

TOMIC #24

Good evening

This weekend has been lovely. The weather is DEFINATELY warming up and it will be Summer in no time!

Today I worked in my craft room. Working full time limits the time I get in my craft room during the week, but I managed to knock this up for the TOMIC Challenge #24 today. To see the requirements and other entries, please click here.

The challenge asked to use a paperbag and be inspired by an image of the Swedish Dalahorse. Being that the image was red, blue and white, I chose to incorporate these colours in my creation. I didn't actually have a paperbag, so I made one from a standard DL size envelope. I learnt this trick from Jody at Created by You Papercrafts.

To make the paperbag I firstly sealed the envelope closed. I then turned the envelope 90 degrees so that it was in what I call the portrait position (short edges at the top and bottom, long edges on the sides). Using my scorer (you could use a score board if you have one) I scored the bottom and sides at about 3/4 inch. Using my bone folder I folded at the score lines and made the fold nice and sharp. I then folded out and over the other way and made the fold nice and sharp again. Once this was done, I cut off the top so that it was open (like a bag) and pushed my hand in, pushing out the folds and flattening out the bottom. I made the corners at the bottom into a triangle on each side and stuck them to the bottom with double sided tape.

I found it easiest to make the "face" of my bag seperately before sticking it to the bag. I do this with cards also. This helps to hide any ribbon that folds under the face, or if you are using brads, the pins wont show on the inside.

I chose this image of Tilda with the Lamb because looking at the picture of the horse took me back to my primary school days and acting out the Nativity Scene each Christmas. I dont ever recall a real horse, (usually a hobby horse with wool for the mane and the boggly eyes that move around when you "ride" the horse) but there was certainly lambs and maybe a chicken or two.

Paper/cardstock: Hot off the Press, Bazzill, DL envelope
Embellishments: Paper flowers - Kaisercraft and Papermania; holly leaves from Spotlight; rhinestones, pearl strip and fabric covered brad - Kaiserrcraft; lace bought from the markets; silver and blue ribbon; twine.
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Image coloured with Copics - E000, E11, E31, E33, E37, N1, N3, N7, R20, R22, R24, R29, G21, YG23.

My husband was kind enough to take the photos for me tonight. The first one is a little dark sorry, but with the flash you couldn't see a thing! Hopefully in the side on image you can get a better idea of the colours.

Carmel's catch-up and TOMIC #23

Evening!

I've been a very busy little bee these last couple of weeks! Work has been quite busy and I've had stuff on just about every night after work as well. I guess its only going to get worse as we approach Christmas.

It was Tim and my wedding anniversary on Thursday. Its hard to believe it was 4 years ago that we got married, it feels like only yesterday. To celebrate, we went for a night to the beautiful Sunshine Coast. We stayed in a lovely cabin at "Amore on Buderim Rainforest". If you are planning a romantic weekend away, I can fully recommend it!

Now on to the real reason of my visit this evening, my entry for The Official Magnolia Inspiration Challenge. This week we had to use the sketch designed by Tina and had to use an Edwin stamp.

I used one of my new Magnolia stamps on this card, it's "Edwin's package" from the Merry Little Christmas Collection. I think he is awfully sweet!

being sick sucks

Afternoon peeps!

I've been off work sick for over a week now and I am kinda over it! One advantage has been that I can do stuff in my craft room and update my blog...

I have spent most of this week in my craft room, watching reruns of the love boat and NCIS (oh... I just realised that is quite a mix...) and attempting a clean up, which was mostly unsuccessful, haha! I did however get a gift for Tim's Grandma done, as well as another challenge card, which I will post seperately in a moment.

I saw this cute tea chest in the new Magnolia Ink Magazine No 4 2011 made by Ying. So I had a go at it and this is what I came up with for Tim's Grandma's birthday. She absolutely loved it!

Materials Used:

Stamp: Magnolia Butterfly Wishes Collection - "Tilda with Butterfly Jeans"

Cardstock/paper: Kaisercraft "Chanteuse" collection, paper doily, Prima "Madeline" collection.

TOMIC Entry

Good morning!

So I spent most of yesterday working on the The Official Magnolia Inspiration Challenge (TOMIC). This is the first time I have entered so I am rather excited!

I decided to go with the centre vertical row, using pearls, lace and the colour purple.

I have used one of my favourite Magnolia Stamps from the Fairy Tale Collection, "Lady Tilda", and the beautiful "Utopia" papers from Kaisercraft.

Materials used:

Stamps: Magnolia - "Lady Tilda", Papermania - Midnight fairytale.

Cardstock/Paper: DCWV, Kaisercraft

Embellishments: Kaisercraft paper blooms, pearls, lace, rose ribbon, punched leaves (punch bunch).

How slack am I?

Or is it more like, how busy has this year been??

Work has been mayhem, and outside of work has been just as busy.

I have been doing lots of crafty stuff, just havent been able to get them online!

Here's to a fresh start. I am off to try my hand at a challenge for The Online Magnolia Inspiration Challenge.

Where is Carmel??

Its been a very hectic few months in my life lately. I had the PEAK period at work in November, then Christmas and New Year and now, on top of it all, the Floods have affected work as well. Thankfully, my house was not affected by the floods. To quote my friend Kim, "We live in Utopia"!

Family in Lowood, friends in Emerald, Rockhampton and Brisbane have all been affected and it is heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by all the Queensland floods and I will admit I shed quite a number of tears over the last few weeks. Anna Bligh's speech last week about who Queenslanders are saw me a blubbering mess!! Now comes the time for recovery and rebuilding.

As I have not been able to assist with the physical clean up and recovery, some friends and I are going to be attending the Kaisercraft "Rising Waters Flood Appeal Crop Day" on the 5th February at the Browns Plains Outlet. You can find out more details here.

So since I haven't been able to get to work, I have had time to get a little organised in my scrapping area and I've completed a couple of Layouts, pictures to come.

Well, time for me to go back to my scrapping.

Feeling poorly..

I am sick. I hate being sick. I can think of so many better things to do than sitting here feeling sore and sorry for myself! I guess thats why I'm here on the blog today!

I have been busy taking photos of all my lovely pages and I thought I would post some of the pages I have done in classes/workshops for you to see.

All these pages have been done in a class/workshop at Discover Scrapbooking. You can check out thie blog here.

There was alot of "scalpal" work done in this one. I cut around the edges of some of the petals or leaves so that I can have them laying over the edge of my photo or outer matting. I also cut out a few flowers, leaves and bugs from the same paper as the 2nd matting to place on the page. I used Dimensional Magic on some of the flowers and leaves and used Kindy Glitz on some of the others, just to highlight those elements. I just love this page and Kathy loves it to!!

This was a double page that I did in the first workshop I attended at Discover Scrapbooking. It was an all day workshop/crop and it was great!

I have put this page in our wedding album that I am scrapbooking at the moment. I set myself a goal to have the album done by the end of the year. I have alot to finish in a few months!!

I just love this page. The photo is of my Gran and Poppa's wedding day. I actually missed the class for this page and did it at a crop night instead. I painted the leaves on the side and, once they were dry, smudged my gold ink pad over them. I think they came up nice!

Well I think that is enough for now. When I'm feeling better I will post some more pictures of the pages I have done lately.

Scrapping...

Hello again

Its been awhile since I set foot in my scrapbooking area and I have seriously had withdrawls!! So to get the inspirational juices flowing, I downloaded a sketch from the blog of Moma.

This is my interpretation of the sketch.

Materials used: Prisma Cardstock; Papers - Bella!/Ever After, Best Creation Inc./Mr & Mrs Collection, Creative Imaginations/Helen Dardik,Making Memories; Embellishments -Paper flowers, Basic Grey brads, kaisercraft diecut element, Anna Griffin 3D Title Sticker; KindyGlitz.

I was really happy with the way that the page turned out! The sketch called for the main photo being a 6x4, but I used a 5x7, thus making my page a little "fuller" with photos rather than embellishments.

I felt that the page could use a little "bling" so I used KindyGlitz on the flowers. They came up really good!

Anyway, I hope that the girls at Moma like it as much I do.

May sketch challenge

Hello again

I have been very slack in getting any pictures of pages done this month. You can tell its a peak time at work!

I HAVE, however, taken a picture of my May sketch challenge for Discover Scrapbooking.

I'll have to update the materials used at a later date because I seem to have misplaced the paper with it on there..... oops!

I used an A4 sheet of shimmering paper instead of cutting a Scrapbook paper. I ran a piece of black card (white core) thru my Cuttlebug using one of my "Asian Bundle" embossing folders and then, using my fine sandpaper block, sanded the embossing to bring thru the white core on the image.

I matted my photos on black card. My journalling block is just a piece of white paper ( I used a piece of the paper that came in the sleeve of my scrapbooking album, cut down to size) with gold paint pen doodled around it. I had to practice writing my journalling on a different piece of paper first, just to make sure it all fit in.

I cut the letters using my Cuttlebug and my "Your Not the Boss of Me" alphabet dies and white paper. I had originally thought the white would look alright, but I wasnt overly impressed with the way it looked once sitting on the page, so I coloured the letters using my gold paint pen to match my layout.

Just waiting to see who the winner of the layout challenge is now. Tough competition. You can see all the entries here.

Long time, no see

Hello again

I didnt realise it had been so long since I had put a post up!! I have been busy doing much of same things, scrapping and working.

Here is my page from the April sketch challenge.

SERENITY Material used: Cardstock - Bazzill; Paper - BasicGrey (Marrakeh collection - vanilla chai), Kaisercraft (Offshore collection), EK (Day at the Beach - Beachcomber); Kindy Glitz.

I spent so long cutting out the waves and the pinwheels!! I was pretty impressed with myself though!

I haven't taken pictures of many of my pages lately, (been very slack!), but I promise to get the camera out this weekend and snap away!

Sketch Challenge entry

Hello again

So it seems that I am the reigning champion of Sketch Challenges at Discover Scrapbooking. I won the Feb/March Challenge with the layout I did of me in my bridal gown. I was totally shocked and so happy!!

So now I am working on my April submittion. I was told by the other ladies at the crop night last friday, that I was not allowed to enter this month, so they could win one! Maybe I'll still do it tho.... hehe

My "Circle of Friends" is going well at the moment. I am actually behind 1 month, but through no fault of my own as I have not received the album yet, but I have kept up to date by getting other albums early to do and not fall incredibly behind.

I'll be helping Robyn out at the shop again on Saturday. I love going down there and helping her, its not at all like work, more like helping people discover their creative side! I might take something to work on while I'm down there though... maybe my April sketch challenge!!

Anyway.. I should add some pics of what I have been upto... so here goes

Materials Used: Paper - I seriously can't remember what paper this is!! Bazzill Cardstock; Journalling pen
I did a class at Stamp Art Studio, it was like a beginners class to get me on the right track of what Scrapbooking is all about. This was my efforts after my second class. I was pretty impressed with myself!!

Materials used: Basic Grey Origins collection paper and brads; Bazzill Cardstock, paper flowers, loose weave ribbon, twine, journalling pen.

This is the page I completed in my third class at Stamp Art Studio. Thanks Jenny for helping me learn so much.

Materials used: Paper - (I was given this paper by Kim, so I dont even know what it is!), Bazzill Carstock; Embellishments - paper flowers, brad, kindyglitz.

This paper was already heavily embellished, there was not alot I had to do. I matted my photo with pink Bazzill and also cut my letters on my Cricut with the same Bazzill. I copied the quote at the top from some rub ons that I have (kaiser craft).

Materials: Paper - Creative Imaginations, DCWV, cardstock; Embellishments - kaiser stamp, StazOn ink.

We always refer to Mum's partner, Pete, as "Pirate Pete", goodness knows why! This picture was taken on his birthday where they dressed him up as a Pirate with parrot on his shoulder and everything!

I used a sheet music embossing folder with my Cuttlebug to make the "sheet music" behind the photo. I matted the photo with red cardstock, which I also used to cut the title on my Cricut.

Friday night CROP and all things scrapbooking

Hello again

I went to the Midnight CROP last night at Discover Scrapbooking and I will admit right now, I got NOTHING done!!! I managed to start a card for a newly engaged colleague, but that was all... I didnt even finish that! I DID, however, have an absolute ball last night. I laughed so much I actually have sore abs this morning! Thanks Mum, Laura, Kathy, Sarah and Robyn for making those last couple of hours so enjoyable!! hehe

So I thought I should post a few more pics of my pages/cards so here goes...

Materials used: Cardstock - Bazzill, DCWV; Embellishments - A2Z Scraplets, Kaiser paint, Kaiser stamps, VersaColor ink pad, needle and thread, journalling pen, double sided tape.

I just loved this picture of Tim at David and Faye Spence's wedding. He always looks so spunky in a suit.... hehe. I used an hand-drawn heart and stiched it to my page. I didnt feel that the photo needed to be matted, but decided to journal around the heart and picture, which I did after I adhered the photo to the page. I cut "Tim" out using my Cricut. I found the "Adore" A2Z Scraplet at Robyn's shop and thought it fitted perfectly! I painted it with Red Kaiser Paint. I finished it off by inking all the way around my page.

Materials used: Paper - Urban Lilly, Cardstock; Embellishments - Kaiser rhinestones, Kaiser stamps and VersaColor ink, KindyGlitz, double sided tape.

I found this picture of my beautiful sister and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I found this lovely paper by Urban Lilly and, after matting my photo in white cardstock, I adhered my photo in the middle. Using my Fiskar Shape Cutter, I cut out "Laura" on white cardstock and after adhereing them to my page, I KindyGlitzed them. I placed kaiser rhinestones on all the buds of the flowers on the paper and using the Kaiser stamp and silver VersaColor ink pad, stamped little birds and butterflies. I was really happy with how this worked out. Simple but elegant.

Materials used: Card blank; paper; Embellishments - flowers, Cre8tive butterflies, Cre8tive stamp, VersaColor ink pad, Zing embossing powder, creative imaginations adhesive lace trim.

I made this card for Kathy for her birthday. I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the paper and used edging scissors to give the jagged effect on the paper and Happy Birthday tag. I used a journalling pen to make a "bee line" for the butterflies and finished it off with the lace trim at the top.

Well I think that is enough for now, and plus I am meant to be going to the Gym, although I feel like I had a huge ab work out last night! haha

February/March Sketch Challenge

Hello again...

I have completed my sketch challenge entry for Feb/March at Discover Scrapbooking.

Materials used: Paper - Creative Imaginations, Shimmer paper; Cardstock - DCWV, Bazzill; Embellishments - A 2 Z Scraplets flourish, flowers, adhesive pearls, KindyGlitz, Sharpie fine tip pen.

It sort of just fell together! I am really happy with how it turned out. I used my Cricut to cut out the title and also the journalling block.

Anyway, time to go back to my craft table!

January Sketch Challenge

A few Creations...

So I dont have alot to write in this blog, but I wanted to post some pictures of some of my pages and BTP projects.

A clock I made for my sister Amy for her birthday this year. I used the Kaiser Craft template but changed the papers used to suit my photos. Products used: KaiserCraft BTP clock, flourishes and rhinestones, My Mind's Eye "Beloved" papers pack, Cardstock, rub-ons, flowers and brads.

I usually get the Simply Cards magazine from my local newsagent. I used the papers I received in an issue to make this card. I borrowed the idea of the hills and valleys fold card from the magazine. Products used: Cardstock, Simply Cards papers, KindyGlitz, Versacolor ink, stamp by Cre8tive.

This was one of my first pages I made. Pictures of Tim and my engagement party. Products used: DCWV Garden Party paper, Cardstock, Cre8tive stamp and ink, Zing embossing powder.

Crop Nights

Last night I went to the first Crop night for the year at Discover Scrapbooking. Laura wasn't able to come (I think I would take the offer of home made Gnocchi too...), but Mum came with me.

I am working on my sketch challenge entry. I dont think I got much done! I stuck my pictures on the page and that was about it! I had a good time catching up with everyone tho. It was good.

I'm still trying to figure out how to add pictures from my computer, but when I figure it all out, I will post aome pics of my creations.

The story thus far

I have been a "part time" craft for quite some time. I have experimented with beads, tried my hand at quilting (with many a disaster I can assure you!), and I sew quite well, but have always been interested by papercraft.
I started out making cards for Birthdays and Christmas. Using what ever materials I could get my hands on, I would make little tags for gifts, etc. It wasnt until I went to the Brisbane Papercraft Expo in 2009 that I got seriously into Papercraft.
My mum and I took my heavily pregnant sister, Kathy, to the Expo, mostly to try to get that baby moving! Kathy had been scrapbooking for a little while, baby pictures of her first little one, Emilia, and the like. She convinced me to give it a try and while at the expo, got my first taste of all the beautiful papers and embelishments and ribbons and rub ons that one can buy. I was HOOKED!
It wasnt long before I started going to crop nights at Discover Scrapbooking in Rothwell. I have called upon Robyn's knowledge and expertise MANY times now! I eventually dragged my sister, Laura, along to the crops as well. I dont know if we get much scrapbooking done, but we certainly have an enjoyable evening!

One of my first scrapbook pages, "camp out". My own template. I've used Midnight blue cardstick, Yellow fibre paper, and camping emblishments from creative imagination (i think!).

I eventually went to classes and I went to a whole day workshop. I'll post pics from those a little later. I'm sure my darling husband, Tim, gets very tired of me waffling on about all the latest and greatest things I have discovered in my "papercraft journey", but he always says, "gees, that looks great!', or "you're very clever darling". And I am almost certain he gets tired of me spending money down at the craft shop! HA HA! I keep reminding him, "We want to remember these things when we are older!" or "We have something to show our children and our grandchildren". Works every time... Love you Tim!

It was after a few months that I started to hear about this thing called a Cricut. I did some investigating online and spoke to a few people about it and I just HAD to have one. I now have a Cricut Create AND a Cuttlebug (ProvoCraft - http://www.cricut.com/), but more on how AWESOME that is later.

I have done alot of scrapbooking last year, and this year I intend on doing alot more! I have set myself a goal to finish the wedding album this year (only a couple of years behind...) and I am also taking part in the "Circle of Friends" album at Discover Scrapbooking.

Heres to a successful 2010!

Wading into waters unknown

So here it is, my first BLOG. I must admit I am quite nervous about starting a blog. I not so savvy on doing these sort of things, but, with Amy holding my virtual hand (he he), I have bitten the bullet and started. I recon it has taken me 10 mins to figure out how to put a post on!! HAHA!! Hurdle 1 scaled….

I guess I didn’t think that people would be all that interested in my creations and had never thought of putting them “out there” for the world to see, but here goes…
